"Offers a front-row seat to a landmark Erin Brockovich-style trial… an incredibly polished film."
– Peter Debruge, VARIETY FOUR STARS!
"As gripping as any fictional courtroom drama"
– The Independent
“Through his intelligently crafted documentary, Gertten not only tells a powerful story about the negligence of a large corporation in protecting the health of its employees, but he brings attention to an important issue that might make people think twice before picking up their next bunch of bananas or carton of juice with the name ‘Dole’ on it.”
– Juliana Appenrodt, Daily Trojan
“BANANAS!* shines a spotlight on this fascinating and controversial court room case, revealing the inner decisions of a major international corporation and the tireless efforts of two small law firms taking on the big guns – a true David and Goliath story.”
– Adam Rabiner, Brooklyn Food Coalition
“An extremely well crafted, powerful chronicle of an important issue.”
– Jesther Entertainment
“An extremely well crafted film, in addition to the courtroom drama, there is raw human emotion and even humor. This is life. This is litigation. This is a front row seat to a history making event.”
– ATNZone
“Whether or not you end up rooting for the underdog, Bananas!* is an informative and multifaceted documentary that will make you think twice about, of all things, bananas.”
– Sierra Club
“The documentary asks what’s at stake in truth, for whom, from plaintiffs to lawyers to corporate executives. If courtrooms aren’t built to reveal truths or deliver justice for ‘little people,’ they are all too often where consequences become clear.”
– PopMatters
"The film Dole Food Co. doesn’t want you to see"
– Uprising Radio, LA
I was lucky to see the movie back in 2009 when it it was released. Dole Food Inc. immediately accused authors of fraud, but Swedish filmmaker Fredrik Gerteen said that “Dole and other big corporations have all the best reasons to fight that. But, I think they should do that in an open debate, not by threatening a film or a film festival and a filmmaker”. Well, it’s been almost 2 years since then, and it looks like truth has won!

Crazy that I cannot see this movie. I click on the link(s) and only see the letter from Dole attys. So, where does this leave me? — uhm.. boycotting DOLE.
I am an ADULT and have the ability to watch and decide for myself. Take that away and I am left to believe all of the bad press about DOLE.
Way to burn yourselves, DOLE. People are not very smart, no matter how “educated” they may be!

I saw the movie tonight – I am shocked over the international corporations and proud over being swedish – I wish all luck to the future fights in courts – it will be interesting to follow.

I just watched this documentary/movie on NETFLIX!! Pretty good stuff. DOLE’s cynicism over the whole issue made me sick! I am so glad I was able to watch this. Thanks NETFLIX for showing it! No more DOLE products for me…….

I never ate Dole bananas again after hearing about this case. I don’t care what the attorneys did/did not do; the fact is Dole continued to use a pesticide that it KNEW was harmful and was banned a long time ago in the US, and it believes that it did nothing wrong. Typical corporation. I will never knowingly support a corporation that causes such harm to befall people and the environment. I call on everyone else who feels similarly to boycott Dole’s products. It’s really quite simple. Whole Foods has their own line of fair-trade, organic bananas, and though I doubt that any banana plantation provides great working conditions, it’s got to be an improvement over Dole’s toxic farms. And no, I don’t work for Whole Foods, nor am I in any way affiliated with them. Any company that supplies free-trade, organic bananas would fit the bill.

Har inte köpt några produkter från företag i Dole gruppen sedan filmen kom och kommer aldrig köpa något.
Uppmanar alla mina vänner att sprida sanningen om Dole vidare och bojkotta alla deras produkter.

Wow. Just found out about this today, after reading a review about “Big Boys Gone Bananas”. The world moves at such a furious pace that we must work hard to keep up with the ‘details’ driving our lifestyles.

Thank you for giving voice to the beautiful people of Nicaragua! I will never, ever purchase a DOLE product again. I am spreading the word as far as possible. It is time to stop contaminating our people for profit.

Dear DOLE.
You have the right to not agree with the movie but the hole point with the movie “Bananas” was not freedom of speech. What about using banned poisons? Is not people outside USA people too?
If somthing is too dangerus in the US give it to the poor and defensless, thats the way to do it… Does it matter if 9 of 10 did not get sick if every 10th will never be helthy or even dies?

I am from Nicaragua and live in the U.S. my mother is from the town where the banana workers are from and I wondered if I have any distant relatives affected by this when I watched the film, but by the end I was wondering how many stories like this one go untold in the rest of the world due to the greed and pure evil of companies such as DOLE. STOP BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS NOW!!

Saw the film today 5/31/14 on NC, USA tv as a documentary. Workers should have protection whever they work. This story is profits over people. Very sad. I vow to not eat any dole products.
